Olaide Olabanji, a Nollywood actor, has voiced his support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a recent Instagram post, Olabanji called on Nigerians to prioritize effective leadership over ethnic loyalties when choosing the country’s next leader.
He referenced the military regimes of former heads of state Yakubu Gowon and Murtala Muhammed, arguing that the length of time in office does not necessarily determine a leader’s impact.
If someone can destroy a country in three years, then someone else can make it better just as quickly. Where there are bad people, there are also good, progressive people,” he said.
“Gowon ruled Nigeria for nine years, but Gen. Murtala Muhammed was able to repair much in just six months. So if your fellow tribesman cannot give you a better life, why not let Peter Obi offer you a better future?
Obi is the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election.
The former Anambra governor secured the party’s presidential ticket in May and subsequently announced Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Kano governor, as his running mate.
The NDC has since begun preparations for its presidential campaign council ahead of the election.
Olabanji is the CEO of LAIBAN Film International. He began producing films in 1993 and is known for titles such as ‘Boya Lemo’ (2002) and ‘Sebeeyan Ni’ (2005).
