The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced it has secured a death sentence against Ibrahim Usman, also known as Dan Iyali, for his role in the kidnapping and murder of three individuals in Sokoto State in September 2023.
Usman was tried on a four-count charge before the High Court of Justice of Sokoto State, Sokoto Judicial Division, alongside other suspects who remain at large.
The charges included criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, culpable homicide punishable by death, and voluntarily causing grievous hurt without provocation.
This development follows the earlier sentencing of three men—including a Nigerien national—to death by hanging for terrorism and arms proliferation in Sokoto State.
In June 2026, the High Court of Justice, Sokoto, convicted Yusuf Muhammad (also known as Sallau), a Nigerien; Jabbi Alhaji Yalle; and Kabiru Muhammad. The trio, apprehended by the DSS Counter Terrorism Unit in June 2025, were found guilty of cross-border crimes involving arms trafficking and terrorism.
