I want to keep living.” – Jide Kosoko

Veteran Nigerian actor Jide Kosoko has revealed he nearly lost his life during a medical procedure, as he reflected on his decades-long battle with diabetes.

Speaking on the Africa A-List podcast, Kosoko shared that he has managed his health carefully since his diabetes diagnosis in 1996, motivated by a strong desire to stay alive.

“I’ve been diabetic since 1996 till date, and I’ve continued to maintain myself because I don’t want to die at all,” he stated.

Kosoko also recounted undergoing a colonoscopy, explaining that he was sedated for the procedure. “They said they wanted to check every part of my body to know if there are any traces of cancer. They put me to sleep. And I almost died,” he revealed.

The actor made these remarks while addressing criticism over his attendance at social events while a colleague was ill. He challenged the notion that his presence at parties meant he was without health struggles. “They said someone is sick and Jide Kosoko still went to parties. Why shouldn’t I attend a party?” he questioned.

Kosoko concluded by urging his fellow actors to prioritize their health and undergo routine medical check-ups.
