Phenom, the Nigerian rapper, has opened up about how a single heartbreak led him down a destructive path, revealing that he slept with around 200 women in the span of a year—a pattern he maintained for two consecutive years.
He shared his story at a recent singles conference organized by Harvesters International Christian Centre.
During his talk, Phenom reflected on his journey to faith and his choice to remain celibate before marriage. He admitted that during this turbulent period, he contracted gonorrhoea eight times and frequently feared he had contracted HIV.
It was one heartbreak that made me go crazy,” he said. “It happened, and it was 200 girls in a year at that time. I did that for like two years straight. It was so bad, I didn’t even have peace of mind. I felt like I had HIV.
If I sneezed, I’d wonder, ‘Eh, have I caught something?’ In two years, I had gonorrhoea eight times.”
Phenom said the experience became so common that he could recognize the symptoms himself. “It was that bad. But I met someone who told me, ‘For you to attain certain things, you need to let go of certain things.’”
He went on to share how his life changed after he turned to God, choosing to abstain from sex for about a decade before marriage. “I got introduced to God, and I went celibate for about 10 years before I got married,” he said.
I got married this year, and I didn’t have sex with my wife until our wedding night. I didn’t just change in that aspect; I changed in a lot of ways. I got closer to God and realized that without Him, you’re really nothing.”
