Reality TV star Tacha Akide has urged the organisers of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) to pause the show and rethink their strategy to make it more captivating for viewers.
Appearing on Arise TV, Akide emphasized the need for the show to evolve in response to the rapidly changing entertainment landscape, especially the dominant role of social media.
“I think they need to take a break, restrategise, and come up with something new because we’re now in an era where everything happens on social media,” she said. “You don’t want people watching housemates in the house while P-Square is airing part seven of his family drama online. Everyone is so comfortable with social media now.”
Akide reflected on how BBNaija’s earlier success was partly due to a different social media environment and stressed the importance of fresh, engaging concepts to maintain viewers’ interest. “When the show was really popular, things were different—social media wasn’t what it is now. They need to do something more mind-blowing and interesting because Nigerians are hard to please.”
Tacha Akide first gained fame as a contestant on the 2019 edition of BBNaija, although her run was cut short after she was disqualified for physical aggression towards fellow housemate Mercy Eke. Since leaving the show, Akide has built a career in entertainment and fashion, worked as a radio host at Cool FM, and in 2025 launched her own football club, Tacha FC.
