A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered Nollywood actress Doris Ogala to be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, pending the hearing of her bail application.
Ogala appeared in court on Wednesday, facing a four-count charge of publishing personal materials without consent, disseminating false information, cyberbullying, and attempted extortion. The charges were filed by Chris Okafor, founder of the Mountain of Liberty and Miracle Ministry.
The case had previously been delayed twice due to Ogala’s absence. During Wednesday’s proceedings, she pleaded not guilty to all charges. Prosecuting counsel Tolulope Mokolu requested her remand, stating he needed more time to respond to her bail application, which he had just received.
Defense counsel N. C. Atulomah objected, urging the court to grant Ogala bail and noting she is a governorship candidate in Abia State. He assured the court she would be present at the next hearing.
Presiding Judge Akintayo Aluko ruled that the defense had not provided sufficient grounds for her release but ordered an expedited hearing for her bail application. Ogala was ordered to be remanded at the correctional centre, and the case was adjourned to October 30 for the bail hearing.
Proceedings briefly devolved into chaos when Ogala insisted on addressing the court, despite efforts by her lawyer and others to restrain her.
She shouted, “I must talk, this is Nigeria, they are using government power to oppress me. My boyfriend is using government power to oppress me.” The judge eventually adjourned the court for the day when order could not be restored.
After the proceedings, Ogala took to Instagram to allege that Jerry Eze, Suleman Johnson, Chris Okafor, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti were behind her remand, claiming they feared she would reveal secrets about them.
Jerry Eze, Suleman Johnson and Chris Okafor are responsible for my remand. Alex Otti is fully behind my remand as well. They are afraid of their secret I know. All of them are responsible, believe me,” she wrote.
