The deal, a £36.5million fee – €41m plus €10m in add-ons, is subject to a medical and the Spanish side have gazumped Roma, who had announced the signing of the 21-year-old before he failed to board a flight to the Italian capital.
This dramatic turn of events could have serious consequences for Chelsea midfielder Willian as he waits for Barcelona to match the Stamford Bridge club’s £70m valuation.
Chelsea rejected Barcelona’s £65m bid for Willian on Monday but talks were expected to continue.
Malcom cancelled his Monday night flight to Rome, leaving expectant fans disappointed at the airport.
