A suspected armed robber on Monday night met his waterloo in Benin, capital of Edo state, when an angry mob beat him to death.
The robber who gave his name as Peter Osaherumwen before he died, was caught in the act by his brave victim before the mob descended on him.
According to sources, a detachment of the policemen rescued Peter, but he died on the way to the hospital.
It was gathered that a gang of three robbers had stormed a residence at Erediauwa street, Upper Sokponba, at about 10:00 pm on the fateful day, but the brave landlord grabbed one of them firmly despite shots fired at him which did not penetrate.
Other members of the gang however fled the scene, leaving the late Peter behind.
A cut-to-size double barrel gun and two live cartridges were reportedly recovered from him.
Edo State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Stephen Onwochei, could not be reached for comments.
