The 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army has launched an investigation into the alleged fatal shooting of Oluwaseyi Adeoye, a labourer, by a soldier at a demolition site belonging to Ganic Company in Orile-Imo, along the Sagamu-Abeokuta expressway in Ogun State.
According to reports, Adeoye was part of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development team tasked with demolishing illegal structures in the area.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Major Idereghi Akari, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 35 Artillery Brigade, expressed heartfelt condolences to Adeoye’s family and acknowledged the seriousness of the incident.
Major Akari revealed that a board of inquiry has been set up to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting.
He emphasized that the Army is aware of the allegations involving its personnel and a civilian, which reportedly resulted in the tragic loss of life.
The Brigade recognizes the gravity of this situation and extends its deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased. Accordingly, a board of inquiry has been promptly constituted to ensure a detailed and impartial investigation into the incident, Akari said.
He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring that the findings of the inquiry would be made public.
Major Akari also called for calm from the public and the media, promising that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
