Arsenal have suffered a major injury blow as key defender Gabriel Magalhaes is set to undergo hamstring surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
Gabriel was forced off early in the Gunners’ 3-1 win over Fulham on Wednesday, and after further assessment, the club has confirmed that he requires surgical repair. The setback comes at a critical time for Mikel Arteta’s side, who are chasing the Premier League title and preparing for a crucial Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.
Club Statement
“Following our match against Fulham, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury requiring surgery. Gabi will undergo a surgical procedure in the coming days and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation program, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season. Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting Gabi to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
A Key Player Lost at the Worst Time
Gabriel has been a vital figure in Arsenal’s defense this season, forming a formidable partnership with William Saliba. Despite dealing with knee issues earlier in the campaign, he has started 28 of Arsenal’s 30 Premier League matches, helping the club achieve the best defensive record in the league—conceding just 25 goals.
His absence will force Arteta into a defensive reshuffle, with Jakub Kiwior, Ben White, and Oleksandr Zinchenko expected to step up in the coming weeks.
Upcoming Fixtures
Arsenal will now have to navigate their biggest challenges without one of their defensive pillars. They travel to Goodison Park to face Everton on Saturday, before a massive test against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals at the Emirates on Tuesday, April 9.
