Nigerians Outraged as Nollywood Actors Kunle Afolayan, Yomi Fash, and Others Launch Tinubu Support Group

Several Nigerians have criticized Nollywood actors Kunle Afolayan, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Ayo Adesanya, Remi Surutu, and others for launching a new support group backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election amid widespread economic hardship.

The group, known as the Eko 57 Movement, was unveiled in Lagos State on Sunday and is coordinated by actor Lege Miami.

After a video of the launch went viral online, many Nigerians took to social media to call out the celebrities, accusing them of ignoring the country’s struggles and not being transparent about the prevailing economic conditions.

Some commenters warned that celebrities should refrain from seeking public financial assistance if they fall ill, given their current political stance.

Many Nigerians highlighted that the country’s pressing needs include real-time transmission of election results, improved healthcare, better security, reliable electricity, reduced corruption, and a lower cost of living—challenges they say have worsened under President Tinubu’s administration.

Online reactions included:

@fhemiwrld: It’s just embarrassing. No light. Fuel prices up. You remain silent. Shame on you all.
lordmayorblacksnr: Don’t bother us for sympathy if you face problems—let Tinubu’s mandate help you.
titbeats: The only movement we need is mandatory real-time election result transmission, nothing else.
xozo10000: Lege, what are you doing? Ignoring the masses’ suffering for personal gain?
umaromolara: If you run to social media for help, remember, we’ve seen your faces.
horlayinka_gold: You don’t care about good governance or the killings and poor economy. Anyone listening to you would think you’re fighting for Nigerians’ wellbeing.
thorlulorpe: Support whoever you wish, but don’t seek public sympathy when Nigeria’s problems affect you.
der0ju: Where’s the electricity Tinubu promised before I joined Eko 57?
at.michael1: Only mediocrity supports a failed government.
topesampson: All we see is the collapse of the national grid, darkness, hunger, and insecurity.
broad_content: Eko 576 Lege, are you blind to Nigerians’ suffering? You’re starting something for your own benefit. Hope it lasts.
