A now-viral video features Nigerian actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, confronting his critics with a new catchphrase: Are you an adult?
In the video, Baba Ijesha is surrounded by enthusiastic fans hoping to take photos with him. Before posing for pictures, he asks whether anyone present is over 18 and advises the public to be mindful of age before agreeing to photos with others.
Are you an adult? If you’re over 18, you’re permitted to take a picture with me, he quips, prompting laughter from the crowd. He further cautions, When people approach you for photos or greetings, always ask if they are an adult first.
Baba Ijesha’s public reappearance comes just months after his release from prison in November 2025, where he served time for charges including indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault.
Originally sentenced in July 2022 by a Lagos high court to 16 years’ imprisonment (with terms running concurrently, resulting in approximately five years served), the actor consistently maintained his innocence. In April 2024, he claimed he had been set up and was merely acting according to a script provided by a colleague.
After his release, Baba Ijesha released a song titled ‘Eniwaye Daran,’ recounting the events leading to his arrest and alleging that comedian Princess lured him to her home under the pretense of a meal and a film role, only to exploit his fame in what he described as a calculated scheme.
Last week, Baba Ijesha announced the birth of his child with his wife, Abiodun Tokunbo.
