Barcelona go top of La Liga after Las Palmas hold Madrid

Barcelona are the new leaders in La Liga, after Las Palmas held Real Madrid to a 3-3 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Isco’s early goal was cancelled out by Tana, before Gareth Bale was sent off for violent conduct. Viera and Boateng gave the visitors a two-goal lead, but Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty and a textbook header to level up.

Before the game, Luis Enrique’s men thrashed Sporting Gijon 6-1 at the Camp Nou.

Barca were 2-0 up after 11 minutes through Lionel Messi and a Juan Rodriguez own goal. Sporting pulled one back through Carlos Castro, but Suarez restored the two-goal lead before half-time.

Paco Alcacer added a fourth after the break, before Neymar and Ivan Rakitic completed scoring.

Barcelona now have 57 points, but have played one game more than Madrid, who have 56 points in second place. Sevill are in third position with 52 points.
