Breaking: Manchester United sack Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have sacked head coach Ruben Amorim, bringing an abrupt end to the Portuguese tactician’s spell at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s final match in charge was Sunday’s 1–1 draw against Leeds United, a result that left the Red Devils sixth in the Premier League and outside the title race as the season enters its decisive phase.

The club’s decision follows growing dissatisfaction with performances and results, despite flashes of improvement under the former Sporting CP manager.

United’s league position, coupled with inconsistency against key rivals, is understood to have weighed heavily on the board’s decision.

Darren Fletcher, who currently oversees Manchester United’s Under-18 side, is expected to step in as interim manager until the end of the season.

The former United midfielder is familiar with the club’s structure and is seen as a stabilising option while the hierarchy considers a long-term replacement.

Amorim, who arrived with a reputation for tactical innovation and youth development, departs amid high expectations that ultimately proved difficult to meet in the Premier League’s demanding environment.

Manchester United are yet to issue an official statement detailing the next steps, but the search for a permanent successor is expected to begin immediately as the club looks to salvage its campaign and secure European qualification.
