Chelsea have secured the services of Diego Costa for €40 million according to reports in some of the British media. The English club look to have closed the deal prior to the World Cup kick-off in Brazil, thus side-stepping his price tag being hiked up by a few million in the event he has a good tournament with Spain. The Atlético striker would become a Chelsea player at the end of the season, with his move to the Premier League team set to be announced after the Champions League final.
The Spanish-Brazilian would have agreed a move to the London club months ago, with the deal between the two clubs also in the bag. Chelsea are said to be shelling out €40 million to Atlético Madrid, and things are to be made official after the Champions League final has been played.
According to sources close to Chelsea, Diego Costa will earn €4 million after tax for each of the five seasons he is set to sign for.
The agreement between Chelsea and ‘los rojiblancos’ was finalised last Wednesday when the ‘Rojiblancos’ knocked the team coached by José Mourinho out of the Champions League with a 1-3 victory in the second leg of the semi-finals.
José Mourinho wanted to tie things up before the start of the World Cup in Brazil and the deal could also include another player.
