Cooper Confident Awoniyi-Inspired Forest Will Rattle Everton

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper says his side will head into Saturday’s clash against Everton in ‘good confidence’ after securing maximum points last weekend.

The Reds go into the fixture against The Toffees off the back of our first Premier League victory in 23 years, Taiwo Awoniyi scoring on his home debut against West Ham at a sold out City Ground.

With new arrivals Nigeria’s Emmanuel Dennis, Remo Freuler and Cheikhou Kouyaté training with the squad since then, plus the return of Ryan Yates, Cooper says it’s been a positive week working closely with his players ahead of the trip to Merseyside.

“We were pleased to get off the mark at home last weekend and there were a lot of good things to come from the game,” said Cooper.

“The feeling for the supporters after that first win back was the most important thing and we talked about that with the players in the build-up.

“We’ve had a good week of preparation and with no midweek game we’ve been able to spend a lot of time out on the training pitch together and that’s also important for building on our team spirit.

“Any game in the Premier League is difficult but certainly away from home against Everton will always be a tough fixture but one we’ll commit to.

“Goodison Park is an iconic stadium in this division and always creates a good atmosphere, so we’ve got to go there knowing that will be the case but we go with good confidence following the work we’ve put in this week.

“We try and only think about ourselves, we respect the opponents and we are aware of the strengths Everton have but we’ve got to focus on our ideas and we want to win every game we play in.”
