Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the tribute he received in the seventh minute of Manchester United’s match with Liverpool will stay with him for a long time, as he offered his thanks to the Anfield crowd.
Following the tragic death of his new-born son, Ronaldo was absent on compassionate leave from Manchester United’s fixture away at arch-rivals Liverpool, yet the crowd joined in united applause to show support for the Portuguese forward in his hour of pain.
“A world… a sport… a global family… thank you, Anfield, my family and I will never forget this moment of respect and compassion,” Ronaldo posted on his Instagram account.

Liverpool‘s supporters agreed to the gesture of a minute’s applause for Ronaldo in the seventh minute of the match but spontaneously broke out into the familiar club anthem in a gesture that was well received by Manchester United and Ronaldo himself.
It’s unclear when Ronaldo will be back in action for his club, although he did make a return to training on Wednesday morning.
