#EndSARS report: ‘You can’t clean innocent blood with lie Mohammed’ — Burna Boy taunts FG

Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Afrofusion singer, has taunted the federal government over the report of the Lagos judicial panel on the Lekki tollgate shooting.

The musician, real name Damini Ogulu, had helped convey the wounded to the hospital during the infamous shooting of EndSARS protesters by the army at the tollgate in Lagos on October 20, 2020.

There had been varying reports on the activities of security operatives on that fateful day.

Lai Mohammed, minister for information, had claimed lives weren’t lost during the EndSARS protest at Lekki.

But the panel set up by the Lagos state government to probe the case recently listed 48 casualties of the protest.

It established, contrary to the federal government’s claims, that nine citizens died and four others went missing.

The panel also said the killing of unarmed protesters at the tollgate could be described in the context of a “massacre”.

Reacting to the panel’s report via his Instagram story, Burna Boy wrote: “I just sleep, wake up see say government yansh open far and wide today. You cannot clean innocent blood with lie Mohammed.”

Several Nigerians, particularly the youth and celebrities like Mr Macaroni, DJ Switch and Falz had earlier registered their takes on the panel’s findings.

Desmond Elliot, the actor turned Lagos state lawmaker, had also said that he knew there was calamity and chaos on that night at the Lekki tollgate.

“I read it, and it was very heartbreaking. Heartwrenching. I knew there was a calamity, chaos. Except you are not Nigerian, or you are not human. You would feel for everybody,” Elliot had said.

“I have always said something. When MKO died and the government of the day denied and denied, it took this government to come and say you know what, we have wronged you; this is the truth. And they actually gave Democracy Day.

“We have always said the truth comes out. There is no how you would try to hide it, the truth would come out.”
