England’s Alexander-Arnold ruled out of European Championship

England have confirmed that the injury picked up by Trent Alexander-Arnold during their friendly match with Austria is serious enough to rule him out of the upcoming European Championship. The Liverpool right-back will miss the tournament after suffering a tear to his left quadricep muscle.

There was previously doubt over whether he would be in Gareth Southgate‘s plans after a less than convincing season with Liverpool and he was controversially one of four right-backs due to go to the competition.

Alexander-Arnold dropping out of the squad means that his place could be taken by one of the players who weren’t included in the final 26-man squad announced by Southgate.

Southgate has said that he won’t name a replacement until after their match against Romania.
