Ferdinand and Terry clash on social media: Lucky that I even put you in the top five…

The feud between two of England’s most legendary players, Rio Ferdinand and John Terry, has thrown the country’s sport into disarray.

After a few remarks Ferdinand, a pundit on BT Sport in his post-playing days, saw him reference the greatest central defenders in the Premier League and not name the former Chelsea captain amongst the very best, the two central defenders got into a back and forth on Twitter.

It all starts on BT Sport, where Ferdinand named Virgil van DijkNemanja Vidic and Jaap Stam as the best centre-backs the Premier League has ever seen, ahead of John Terry. That, however, did not go down well with the Chelsea legend, who demonstrated how discontent he was on his Instagram story.

Terry posted a narrative with various media clips and stats in which his name is mentioned as one of the finest in the world.

“Opinions are great, but stats don’t lie…” he wrote.

And Ferdinand weighed in on Twitter, addressing Terry explicitly.

“The moment one has to start pushing their own records and stats it’s really time to start addressing the fragile ego,” he wrote.

“You’re lucky I even put you in the top 5 after the racism case with my brother so be thankful you made it.”

A fragile Ego is putting yourself at Number 1 @rioferdy5,” he replied.

“Thanks for putting me in your top 5.
