Two years on from defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final, Atletico Madrid suffered the same fate on Saturday night, but captain Gabi believes they will win it one day.
It seems as though Los Rojiblancos are doomed to failure in this competition, having once again suffered cruelly in defeat, this time on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Milan’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
After a slow start which saw Sergio Ramos give Real the lead, Diego Simeone’s side fought back thanks to a late equaliser from Yannick Carrasco, and Gabi says they can move past the heartache in the future.
“This club will win the Champions League one day, we deserve it,” he said.
“We must be proud and, starting tomorrow, we will keep working towards that goal.
“This is both the beauty and cruelty of football.”
