No fewer than 15 people were killed by gunmen in Ukuru village, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident was said to have occurred around 12noon on Wednesday.
It was learnt that those killed in the affected areas were mostly men who eating at a tea joint.
Residents said the gunmen stormed the village on motorcycles and started shooting, killing the 15 persons.
One of the residents said the attack could have been a reprisal “because a few days, some men had repelled an attack by bandits during which they killed four of them.”
He said, “The bandits waited for most of our strongmen to go to the farm before they attacked the village and escape with some cows.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, could not be reached.
Also officials of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency were also not available for comment.
The attack came after the state governor, Abubakar Bello, on Thursday called for the establishment of a special military camp to tackle insecurity in some parts of the state .
