Afrofusion star Burna Boy recently paid a courtesy visit to Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State.

Photos from the meeting, now circulating online, show Burna Boy dressed in a sharp, dark blue kaftan as he stood beside the governor. The Grammy-winning artist, who hails from Rivers State, was joined by his father, Samuel Ogulu, and music executive Soso Soberekon.

Details about the reason for the visit have not been made public.

This isn’t the first time Burna Boy has been welcomed by a state governor. In 2021, he and his team visited the Port Harcourt government house during the tenure of then-governor Nyesom Wike. That same year, following his Grammy win for ‘Twice As Tall’ (Best World Music Album), Burna Boy received the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS), the state’s second-highest honor.

Wike also awarded N10 million each to artists who performed at Burna Boy’s homecoming concert.

Born Damini Ogulu, Burna Boy gained prominence in 2013 with “Like to Party,” the lead single from his debut album, L.I.F.E. Since then, he has become one of Africa’s most successful musicians, known for blending genres and releasing chart-topping projects.
