James Rodriguez returns to Everton and Benitez after failed exit attempt

After a summer of uncertainty over James Rodriguez’s future, the Colombian midfielder finds himself back at Everton training after being unable to find another club. The 30-year-old was searching endlessly for a future outside of England, but, after a move to Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey was all that was on the cards, James turned down the offer and finds himself back in the north England.

The Colombian was found partying in Ibiza in recent days, which caused a lot of problems, and he has since posted videos of himself training individually. He wants to look as if he is focused on the season ahead.

However, given his notorious struggles with Rafa Benitez, James will struggle to find an easy way back into the Toffees’ squad, especially having not featured in their first four league games, or in pre-season.

The Merseyside club took to Twitter to announce his return with a picture of him alongside Yerry Mina and new Venezuelan signing Salomon Rondon.

With the next game against Burnley on Monday, the playmaker will hope to at least feature on the bench.

James is under contract with Everton until June 2022 and will then become a free agent.
