Leo finally did it. After coming up empty-handed after five acting nominations since 1993, Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar on Sunday (Feb. 28) for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in The Revenant.
Thanks to his long overdue win for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role at the 88th Annual Academy Awards, Leo also received major props from the hip-hop community, including Kanye West.

Lil Wayne offered a “Kongrats” of his own for the actor who was previously nominated for his work in The Wolf of Wall Street, Blood Diamond, The Aviator, and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

DiCaprio’s work, which includes acting in films like Inception, The Departed, and Titanic, also helped him become one of Fabolous’ favorite actors of all time, according to the Brooklyn MC’s congratulatory post.
“Sometimes u gotta say fuck em & keep winning,” Loso wrote on Instagram. “Leo in my Top 5 male actors of all time!!! Congrats to him for gettin the trophy tonight. Love to see the underdogs win! And always loved the guys who keep working even when they not gettin recognized. We do it for us and the culture. The trophies is just extra.”
The congrats kept pouring in. Elsewhere, Keyshia Cole celebrated her “crush” with a snapshot of his moment of glory.
And Tyler, the Creator joined in with an IG of young Leo and a caption that read: “yes boyfriend yes.”
Fellow Oscar winner John Legend praised DiCaprio, as well. “Congrats,” he tweeted. “Great speech.”

As Legend noted, DiCaprio’s speech was also noteworthy last night. While onstage, Leo spoke about the importance of understanding climate change.
“Making The Revenant was about man’s relationship with the natural world,” he said. “A world that we collectively felt in 2015 was the hottest year in recorded history. Our production team needed to go to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow; climate change is real, and it’s happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work together and stop procrastinating.”
