Afrobeats star Iyanya has landed in hot water after a spelling blunder added fuel to the ongoing Wizkid vs. Davido fan war. While responding to accusations that he’s switched camps from Wizkid to Davido, the singer mistakenly spelled Wizkid’s tribute album “Morayo” as “Maroya” and fans weren’t having it.
The heat began on X (formerly Twitter) when a user claimed Iyanya had abandoned Wizkid. In his defence, Iyanya claimed he supports all artists equally and even mentioned he regularly listens to albums like Made in Lagos and “Maroya.”
That typo? It instantly became ammo for social media users:
- @Gwan_123 mocked, “Maroya 😭😂😂😂😂 you go just know say na on mute e play am.”
- @Rozaycharm_ joked, “You just gave 30Bingos a new banter weapon 😭.”
- @The_Good fumed, “You clearly know what you’re doing… God go punish you.”
Some saw it as more than a simple mistake, accusing Iyanya of being insincere. Others turned the moment into viral content, with quips like “Maroya, the greatest album never released” and “This week go long.”

Iyanya later corrected the error and spelled “Morayo” properly in a follow-up tweet. Still, the dragging didn’t stop. One user added, “No worry, we understand. Even me sef no dey remember that album name. The album too useless 🤣🤣.”
Despite trying to clear the air, the backlash has only highlighted how sensitive fanbases remain in the never-ending Wizkid vs. Davido rivalry.
Iyanya might’ve meant peace, but one typo turned him into the week’s main character.
