The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially summoned controversial entertainer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor.
The action follows disturbing comments made by the singer during a recent Instagram Live session, where he claimed to have engaged in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
The statement sparked widespread outrage and prompted calls for legal action.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) formally reported the incident to NAPTIP, urging the federal agency to launch a full investigation into the matter.
In response to the backlash, Speed Darlington released a video insisting that his remarks were part of a promotional stunt for a new song. He also issued an apology for any offence or distress caused by his comments.
However, in a statement released on Thursday, NAPTIP confirmed it had summoned the singer for questioning. The agency stated that failure to honour the invitation could result in legal consequences.
NAPTIP remains committed to protecting the rights of minors and will ensure thorough investigations and appropriate actions in all cases involving alleged sexual abuse or exploitation, the statement read.
