New terms and conditions for WhatsApp: What are they and how do they affect you?

WhatsApp has become a staple in many of our lives, becoming the most popular instant messaging app in the world, and in 2021 it is bringing in new terms and conditions.

All the details

From February 8, it will be necessary for all users to have accepted the conditions in order to keep using WhatsApp on their phone.

The terms and privacy policy are being updated to demand the interchange of data with Facebook and related companies.

It’s a controversial change in its terms of use, which many users have said they are not happy with.

Sharing data with Facebook

From today and in the days ahead, WhatsApp users will be alerted to new terms of use and a new privacy policy over three key updates which will impact how WhatsApp, and Facebook, processes your data and shares it with other companies.

If a user doesn’t accept the new terms by February 8, they won’t be able to continue using the app.

Data WhatsApp will share with Facebook companies

1 Information of your account registration, like your phone number

2 Operational data

3 Information related to service

4 Information about how the users interacts with others, including businesses

5 Information about mobile devices (battery charge, internet provider, signal strength, hardware model, operating system, etc.)

6 IP address

By accepting the new terms and conditions, users are giving Mark Zuckerberg’s companies almost total access to their activities, right through from text messages to contacts or online shopping, drawing criticism about a lack of privacy.
