Barcelona has now officially completed the expected signing of Miralem Pjanic from Juventus.

With Los Cules making an official, announcement on Monday afternoon, the former Roma and Lyon playmaker is now categorically a Barcelona player and will play a part in Quique Setien‘s squad from the 2020/21 season onwards.

After a rather controversial move to Turin from Rome, causing significant fan-ire, Pjanic brings to an end a four-year spell with the Bianconeri to become Barcelona‘s first major signing of the summer.

Despite being 30 years old already, the midfielder has penned a four-year deal with the Spanish giants and becomes the latest piece of mutually beneficial business between the two clubs.

Barcelona will pay 60 million euros for the midfielder, with an extra 5m coming in the form of add ons.

Back in December there was a swap deal involving Alejandro Marques and Matheus Pereira as well as significant finance changing hands too.

There has been a rush to get these deals involving Pjanic and Arthur done by June 30 for capital gains reasons, however Arthur’s initial reticence to move away almost scuppered the plan entirely.

Pjanic has been wanted

The midfielder has been an object of Barcelona‘s desire ever since Fabio Paratici and Oscar Grau first sat down together a number of weeks ago.

The priority was to find a deal that would satisfy both teams from a financial perspective and secondly to help either team in a sporting capacity.

Pjanic‘s reputation is stellar and he will join a midfield already containing Sergio Busquets and Frenkie De Jong, yet there are doubts over the continuity of both Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic.

Riqui Puig‘s emergence in midfield has added depth whilst there are high hopes for the youngsters Pedri, Trincao and Matheus Fernandes ahead of the 2020/21 season.
