Struggling Liverpool will have to cope without Sadio Mane for the rest of the season following confirmed injury news about the Senegalese.
Mane scored for the Reds as they won their highly contested Merseyside Derby 3-1 against Everton on Fool’s day.
The Senegalese was however forced off the field on 57 minutes with diagnosis later confirming that he had sustained knee cartilage damage.
The extent of the damage was not immediately clear but, according to the German trainer, his side will have to do without the forward for the rest of their campaign.
Fans of the Anfield outfit were hoping for better news on the Mane injury front but, sadly, it’s not to be.
Speaking to the press ahead of Saturday’s clash against Stoke City, Klopp all but confirmed his absence for the remainder of the season.
“Sadio will, we’re pretty sure, needs surgery,” Klopp told reporters. “We’re not 100 per cent sure when it will happen, but then it is clear his season is over.
“But then he’ll have a long break and be ready for next season, so that’s the only good news.”
The German also had updates to offer other crucial Reds players who have missed game time recently.
“Adam Lallana is much better but isn’t yet back training. Similar with Jordan Henderson. Daniel Sturridge is training and we will see.”
“We don’t play any of our rivals anymore so we can’t influence them. We just have to get as many points as we can,” he added.
“You don’t get to 60 points now through nothing. Being in this position is good but the season is not over.”
