According to pmnewsnigeria.com Residents of Alagbole and Ajuwon in Ogun State have lamented the power outage which the community has been plunged into in the last one month. Some residents who spoke to our correspondent said the community has been thrown into total darkness following the explosion of the transformer serving the area. They said the situation has also affected local business in the area.

A staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, Iju/Ishaga Waterworks branch who gave his name as Yusuf, disclosed that the company cannot state categorically when power will be restored to the area. Work is presently going on as regards the explosion but I cannot tell you precisely when everything would totally be restored,” he explained. Our correspondent observed that the filling stations have not experienced any unusual queues of people who want to buy fuel. An attendant in one of the filling stations in the area said that the people are virtually used to power outage and have always maintained a regular ‘visit’ to the filling station to get fuel to power their generating sets.

He said: “The people are already used to the power outage, so we have not had excessive queues of people who want to buy fuel. We have also not increased the fuel pump price for that reason because that would amount to wickedness”. Tobi Otukoya, a student of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, who is presently on Industrial Training in the area, said the issue of power outage is not pleasant because he likes to read late at night but he has not been able to do so due to the outage.

A cybercafe owner in the area said the long outage has been like a blessing in disguise for him as he gets more customers compared to when there was regular power supply because people visit the cybercafé more often since their personal computers may have been shut down due to poor electricity supply.
A frozen food seller in the area, Michael Amadi, said the situation has affected his business. This power outage issue has really killed business for me because the items I sell need regular power supply for me to remain in business. We are appealing to the appropriate bodies involved to come to our aid as soon as possible before it generates into something more unpleasant,” Amadi lamented.
