Tension has escalated in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, following the fatal shooting of Dauda Oyeyemi, widely known as “Emir,” who was an aide and associate of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Oyeyemi was reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen on Sunday during a conflict over the leadership of a local motor park.
Sources indicate that Oyeyemi had been attempting to assume control of the park, which is currently managed by Wakili Nurudeen, also known as “Alowonle.” The rivalry between their respective groups had already heightened unrest in the area.
According to reports, Oyeyemi attended a meeting at Mayfair Motor Park with his supporters in a bid to resolve the ongoing dispute. Masked gunmen allegedly stormed the venue and shot Oyeyemi in the head, causing chaos as members of both factions fled.
An eyewitness recounted that in the aftermath, a vehicle carrying some of Oyeyemi’s associates, known as the Emir group, was involved in an accident near Campus Gate while trying to escape the scene.
Following the incident, there was a surge in tension around Oyeyemi’s base in the Asoje area of Osogbo, with his associates expressing anger over his death. Members of the Emir group have accused the Alowonle faction of orchestrating the attack, though this claim has not been independently verified.
Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the killing and called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. He further urged authorities to ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted.
