Police operatives in Ogun State have recovered 11 assorted iPhones, a laptop computer, and other items from two suspected members of a robbery gang arrested shortly after an attack at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro.
According to the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects were apprehended following a distress call received around 2:40 a.m. on September 13. The anonymous caller reported that an armed gang was robbing students at a local hostel. Officers from the Ewekoro Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, responded promptly to the alert.
Upon arrival, the suspects attempted to flee, abandoning a school bag containing stolen items. Police pursued and successfully arrested two individuals. A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of 11 iPhones, an HP laptop, and several articles of clothing. Some victims have already identified the recovered property as theirs.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang forced one of their victims to transfer N200,000 to an account during the robbery. Detectives have since visited the crime scene, documented evidence of forced entry, and secured the recovered items. The suspects and recovered property have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and to trace the owner of the beneficiary account.
State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the Ewekoro Division for their swift response and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting students and residents from crime. He encouraged operators of off-campus student hostels and landlords to maintain emergency contact numbers and to report any security threats or suspicious activities promptly.
