Portable Remanded in Prison After Failing to Meet Bail Conditions in Defamation Case

Nigerian singer Portable, born Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after he failed to meet the bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court.

Portable, who is facing charges including defamation of character, intimidation, inciting public disturbance, and cyberstalking, was granted bail of N1 million, with two sureties required in like sum. One surety must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the other must be a property owner in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin with a valid Certificate of Occupancy.

The charges stem from a live Instagram broadcast where Portable allegedly defamed fellow artist Okunola Saheed Osupa, aka Osupa. In the video, Portable made derogatory remarks about Osupa, accusing him of being envious of his success and attempting to tarnish his reputation.

Osupa filed a petition on March 21, 2025, and the case is recorded under First Information Report (FIR) 117(1) CPC. The court has adjourned the case, underscoring the importance of adhering to legal procedures while maintaining order and respect during the ongoing trial. Portable’s release will depend on his ability to fulfill the bail conditions.
