Presidency lauds ‘The Black Book’ for global success on Netflix

The presidency has congratulated the cast and crew of ‘The Black Book’ for the movie’s global success on Netflix.

Released on September 22, the movie achieved the number one ranking globally on the streaming platform on Wednesday.

In a statement on Thursday, the presidency commended everyone who took part in ‘The Black Book’ for the movie’s achievement of becoming “the first Nigerian film to top Netflix globally shortly after its release”.

The statement added that the movie deserves recognition for its remarkable achievement on the prestigious streaming platform.


Congratulations to the cast and crew of Nollywood’s ‘The Black Book’ for quickly rising to number one spot on Netflix globally, a few days after its release – a first for a Nigerian movie. This movie deserves recognition for its remarkable achievement,” the statement reads.

‘The Black Book’ is a fictional thriller that delves into Nigeria’s history of military dictatorship, drug trafficking, and politics through the journey of a retired hitman.

It features prominent actors such as Richard Mofe-Damijo, Alex Usifo, Sam Dede, Taiwo Ajayi-Lycett, Denola Grey, Shaffy Bello and Ireti Doyle.

The movie, described as “Nigeria’s biggest-budget film to date, with a budget exceeding $1 million,” has garnered positive reviews since its release.

The film is directed by Editi Effiong, who is popular for his other works ‘Up North’ and ‘Fishbone’.
