Adrien Rabiot has dismissed reports of unrest in the Marseille camp following their recent dip in form, insisting there are “no problems” among players despite tension after a shocking loss to Reims.
Marseille’s 3-1 defeat to a Reims side that hadn’t won in 15 league games sparked speculation that Roberto De Zerbi’s intense methods were starting to wear thin. Rumours swirled that the manager even kept the players overnight at the training ground in response to the loss.
After a string of three consecutive defeats, a narrow 3-2 win over Toulouse helped steady the ship, but the pressure remains. With only six Ligue 1 matches left, Saturday’s clash against Monaco is now seen as a key turning point in their Champions League push.
Rabiot, who had strongly criticised his teammates’ commitment after the Reims game, clarified that his comments were meant to motivate, not divide.
“I’ve already spoken about it. There’s no problem with anyone regarding what I’ve said. The players know very well what I want,” Rabiot told reporters.
“Those who are here must understand they must have the same objectives as everyone else — the club, the coach, the players.”
He added that his remarks were also directed at younger players who may not yet grasp the weight of qualifying for the Champions League.
“We’re here, with our experience, to make them aware of what’s at stake. Maybe they don’t understand yet that playing in the Champions League could be huge for their careers.”
Rabiot emphasised that total unity is essential as Marseille aim for a top-four finish.
“We talk a lot in private and there are no problems. That’s part of our role,” he said.
“There may be ups and downs, but we all have to push in the same direction. By the end of the season, nobody should be operating at 20 or 30 percent below their best. Everyone has to be locked in.”
Currently sitting second in the table, Marseille are just two points ahead of Monaco. Saturday’s showdown in the principality is about more than standings — it could define the team’s momentum and belief for the run-in.
