Rahama Sadau: Any disrespect to my religion over those photos remains condemned

Rahama Sadau, a Nigerian actress, has condemned some of the words used by critics amid the backlash that trailed her choice of outfit for a recent photoshoot.

The Kannywood star had left tongues wagging after she shared photos wherein she is seen posing in a tight-fitted pink gown that exposed her skin from her neck down to the upper section of her waist.

The development had generated controversy with several conservative Muslims lashing out at her for going against Islamic tenets of dressing.

Reacting to the criticism in a series of posts on Monday, Sadau said her fashion choice was not aimed at insulting Islam or Prophet Mohammad as alleged by some.

The Hause actress, who has since taken down the photos, also condemned tweets that had derogatory undertones attached to them.

The movie star said she remains a strong adherent of Islam while expressing apology “for the unseen circumstances that led to these avoidable, yet regrettable dramas.”

“Salam, it’s sad and unfortunate waking up to series of unexpected messages, tags and trends over the harmless pictures i posted. As a human, I laughed at some, frowned against many and disapproved most. To the most unfortunate event, some of these comments took a different dimension,” she wrote.

“Having mixed followers, bashing each other’s faiths to the extent of creating trends like “Assistant Allah” (subhanallah), raining curses and some tweeting blasphemous words to our Prophet Muhammad (SAW)- this is the height of it and it stands condemnable and regrettable.

“I am with all sense of sincerity, dissociating myself from such derogatory and hurtful words. To everyone who knows me or follows me, should know I’m not the type that react to anything or embrace advices from social media moral police. But my Prophet and religion is where I draw the line.

“Any disrespect to my religion and Prophet regarding those pictures remain condemned and reprobated, not in any way and not on any event. The perpetrators should learn to separate people’s way of life and respect for their faiths.

“I remain defender of my Prophet in heart, online and offline. I deeply and sincerely apologised for the unseen circumstances that led to these avoidable, yet regrettable dramas.”
