Rema has stirred mixed reactions after performing alongside mannequins designed to resemble Afrobeats ‘big 3’ — Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido — at his recent show at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The performance was part of his 2025 Heis World Tour, where he delivered electrifying renditions of hit songs like Ozeba, March Am, Azaman and Charm.
However, it was Rema’s entrance during Hehehe — appearing on stage amid the lifelike figures of the three Afrobeats giants — that ignited debate online.
While some fans interpreted the act as a tribute to the industry’s leading stars, critics argued that it was unnecessary or even disrespectful.
Social media commentator Regha argued that Rema’s gesture crossed a line, calling it an act of subtle disrespect rather than entertainment.
Wizkid, or Burna. What he did, performing Hehehe next to to their mannequins isn’t entertainment but an act of subtle disrespect. His management should have known better, there’s a thin line between admiration and mockery, he wrote.
When it comes to the conversation about the Big 3, or even Top 10, he’s not making such list unless it’s a list of new artistes from his time/era. No offense.
