Roma boss Mourinho mocks Napoli’s Lozano after Serie A loss

Roma were beaten by an unstoppable Napoli side who picked up an important win at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night, with the visitors chaining together 11 consecutive wins.

Victor Osimhen’s solitary goal boosted Luciano Spalletti’s side’s chances of challenging for the Serie A title this season. At the moment, they are three points ahead of last season’s champions, AC Milan.

Roma coach Jose Mourinho did not take the result well, using the media to take a series of jabs against his opponents that night.

“In my opinion, we played a good game. I’m happy with the guys, I don’t like to go away losing, but I have a positive feeling,” Mourinho stated.

“Congratulations to Napoli, they won without deserving it. And congratulations to us, we lost without deserving it,”

As is sometimes usual for the Portuguese, he was not too happy with the refereeing decisions.

“Cristante was afraid to challenge for the ball because of the yellow card,” Mourinho continued.

“I try to make my players understand the referee before every game, I made a mistake, there were already several yellow cards at the first minute. There are things I didn’t like, but I told them calmly.

“I think Irrati is a great referee, a serious and very fair man. But he didn’t play a good match. That happens in life. Everyone has an off day from time to time.”

Mourinho criticises Chucky Lozano
Mexico’s Hirving Lozano was named in the starting line-up, showing his good form for Napoli, and giving Mexico hope for the fast approaching Qatar 2022 World Cup.

However, the former PSV and Pachuca player had to endure the taunts of Mourinho on Sunday following the match between Roma and Napoli.

“What’s the name of the guy who always goes down?” asked Mourinho in what could only be construed as an insult directed at Lozano.

We put Leonardo Spinazzola with that player who always falls down. He throws himself on the ground all the time. Lozano, that was his name.”

Aside from Mourinho’s jibes Lozano was unable to continue his scoring streak, having scored three goals in the previous three games.
