A tragic road crash involving an articulated vehicle has claimed the lives of seven people and left 16 others injured along the Agaie-Badegi Road in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.
This was confirmed by the Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, in a statement issued on Sunday in Minna.
According to Baba-Arah, the road crash occurred at a notorious bad section of the Lambata-Bida axis and involved a truck transporting Federal Government grains from Lagos to Kano. The vehicle was carrying approximately 36 male passengers.
As of the time of reporting, seven individuals have been confirmed dead, 11 sustained severe injuries, while five others suffered minor injuries,” he said.
The DG noted that the injured in the road crash were taken to health centres in Badeggi and Agaie for treatment, while some were assisted by their fellow passengers. He added that most of the deceased have been claimed by their families.
Baba-Arah said rescue efforts were coordinated by NSEMA in collaboration with local villagers and passing commuters who assisted at the scene.
