Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini seized in FBI-backed EOCO raid

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of Ghana, in collaboration with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Department of Justice, has seized a 2019 Lamborghini Uru from the residence of renowned Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale.

The operation, conducted in June 2025 at Shatta Wale’s Trassaco Valley Phase 1 home in Accra, marks a significant development in an international investigation into financial crimes linked to the luxury vehicle.

According to a statement issued by EOCO’s Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the seizure followed a 2023 request from the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Lamborghini Urus, valued as part of a $4.7 million restitution order, was allegedly purchased with proceeds from the criminal activities of Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving an 86-month sentence in the United States for multiple financial offenses, including romance scams and business email compromise schemes.

The vehicle was traced to Shatta Wale, prompting the joint operation by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU).

The operation was carried out lawfully and without incident, with EOCO emphasizing the professionalism and civility of its officers.

Shatta Wale, who was present during the search, reportedly pleaded with authorities to keep the seizure out of the public eye, citing the vehicle’s significance to his brand and public image.

After initial resistance, the artist voluntarily surrendered the keys, and the Lamborghini is now in EOCO’s custody, pending a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request from U.S. authorities for its repatriation.

EOCO clarified that it is standard protocol for SARU officers to be armed during such operations for safety reasons.

The agency also revealed that Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signals Bureau (NSB) have been named persons of interest in the ongoing investigation.

Both individuals are expected to be invited for questioning in the coming days, with EOCO potentially sharing a final report with the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice as part of continued bilateral cooperation.

The seizure has sparked widespread discussion on social media platforms, with posts on X reflecting a mix of shock and speculation among fans and observers.

Some users suggested the raid was linked to broader investigations, including the case of Adu Boahen, though EOCO’s statement did not confirm this connection. T

he operation underscores the growing collaboration between Ghanaian and international law enforcement agencies in combating transnational financial crimes.

Shatta Wale, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and extensive car collection, which includes a recently acquired Rolls-Royce Cullinan and a Cadillac Escalade, has not publicly commented on the seizure.
