Suspected Fulani militias kill, injure many in Southern Kaduna

Suspected gunmen invaded Madamai and Abun villages in the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing about 30 persons.

The attacks on the two villages took place on Sunday evening.

Women and children made up a large number of victims of the gunmen’s sporadic shooting.

Rev. Father Michael Magaji of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan explained that the armed men came to the villages in their large numbers.

He confirmed that many houses were burnt but could not ascertain the number.

He could not also confirm the number of victims but assured that those who sustained various degrees of injuries have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Senator representing Kaduna South, Danjuma La’ah, condemned in strong terms the continuous killing and destruction of properties of people of Southern Kaduna.

He lamented that the people of Southern Kaduna have been experiencing series of attacks in recent times, where hundreds of people have been killed and those living have found themselves becoming Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The lawmaker appealed to the people of the area to remain calm and not to take the law into their hands.

He called on the authorities concerned to beef up security in the area to avoid further attacks which may escalate the loss of lives and property in the area.

He added that if the government refuses to take proactive measures to address the issue, the people will be left with no option other than to embark on self-defence in order to protect themselves and their lands.
