The Best 2019: The finalists

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi remain immovable in the list of candidates for football’s individual awards, with Virgil van Dijk joining the pair in this year’s The Best men’s finalists.

Expectedly, the women’s category is filled largely by the United States‘ World Cup stars Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe, with England and Lyon’s Lucy Bronze the third.

Alisson Becker, Ederson and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are the last three standing in the award for The Best goalkeeper, with Christiane Endler, Hedvig Lindah and Sari van Veenendaal being the women’s finalists.

Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino are in the running to be crowned The Best coach and those in the women’s game are Jill Ellis, Phil Neville and Sarina Wiegman.

Messi’s name appears again in the final three contenders for The Best goal for his effort against Real Betis in March. The Argentinian is joined by River Plate‘s Fernando Quintero and Hungarian Daniel Zsori.
