Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will now pay a single fee of N4,000 to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results, according to a joint announcement by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
This clarification was provided in a joint press statement released on Tuesday, following consultations between the two bodies regarding the recently introduced system that allows candidates to upload and verify their O’Level results remotely.
Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are coordinated by JAMB are required to verify their WAEC results once through the JAMB platform. The verified results will then be made available to the tertiary institution to which the candidate is applying.
JAMB and WAEC emphasized that candidates will not pay any additional verification fees to their chosen institutions. The statement reads: “Candidates are to pay N4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions.
Tertiary institutions have been directed to use the verified results transmitted by JAMB for admission screening, processing, and other administrative activities.
According to the statement, “Tertiary institutions are to utilise the verified results shared by JAMB for screening, processing candidate admission, and other administrative purposes. Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification.
This development follows JAMB’s recent launch of a system enabling candidates to upload and verify their O’Level results from home or any internet-enabled location, eliminating the need to visit JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres solely for this purpose.
The new arrangement, which started with WAEC results, is designed to enable JAMB to verify candidates’ results directly with the examination bodies, as part of ongoing efforts to make admission services faster, safer, and more convenient.
With this clarification, both JAMB and WAEC have confirmed that the verification conducted through JAMB is a one-time process, and the verified result will be available for subsequent use by the relevant institution.
WAEC has also authorized JAMB to share the verification outcome with tertiary institutions. “WAEC has agreed to permit JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with the relevant tertiary institutions for admission and related administrative purposes,” the statement noted.
The agencies explained that this arrangement is intended to prevent candidates from undergoing multiple verification processes at different institutions after completing the verification via JAMB, thereby reducing the associated financial and logistical burdens.
“Candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’Level result through the Verification Service platform will not be required to repeat the same verification exercise, the statement added.
Candidates are encouraged to complete their WASSCE O’Level verification through the JAMB platform just once, as the verified result will be used by the relevant institutions for the admission process. This change comes as thousands of Nigerian youths navigate the 2026/2027 tertiary admission process, where O’Level results remain a critical factor for eligibility.
Previously, candidates were required to upload their O’Level results to the JAMB platform and sometimes undergo additional verification by individual institutions.
WAEC also maintained its own verification system, leading to repeated checks, additional costs, and frequent visits to CBT centres and institutions. The new centralised process means candidates will pay N4,000 once to verify their results through JAMB, and tertiary institutions must rely on the verified results without requesting further payments.
JAMB and WAEC noted that the “one verification, multiple uses” system will reduce costs, simplify the admission process, and help maintain the integrity and security of academic records by limiting opportunities for the presentation of fake or altered certificates.
Candidates are advised to use the JAMB platform for verification and to retain their verification information for the duration of the admission process. The N4,000 fee is a one-off payment, not an annual or per-institution charge, for candidates admitted through JAMB.
