The Minnesota Timberwolves pulled off a stunning 117-95 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1, defying expectations as overwhelming underdogs. The trio of Jaden McDaniels, Anthony Edwards, and Naz Reid spearheaded the Timberwolves’ charge, combining for 70 points in a dominant all-around effort.
Although the Lakers jumped out to a 28-21 lead after the first quarter, powered by Luka Doncic’s explosive 16-point start, Minnesota’s lethal three-point shooting (21-for-42) shifted the tide decisively. Doncic finished with a game-high 37 points, but his brilliance wasn’t enough to contain the Wolves’ offensive firepower.

Knicks Survive Pistons Scare with 123-112 Comeback Win at MSG
At Madison Square Garden, the New York Knicks fended off a potential upset by the Detroit Pistons, turning the tide late to secure a 123-112 victory in their series opener.
The young Pistons, in their first playoff appearance since 2019, controlled much of the game until a late rally led by Jalen Brunson, who overcame an ankle scare to pour in 34 points and 8 assists. Karl-Anthony Towns delivered a monster stat line with 23 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks, while OG Anunoby added 23 points and 7 boards.
Off the bench, Cameron Payne contributed 14 points, showcasing New York’s depth and resilience.
For the Pistons, Tobias Harris led with 25 points, while Cade Cunningham and Malik Beasley chipped in 21 and 20 points respectively, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Knicks from taking a 1-0 series lead.
