Once you ignore all his unusual beliefs about Scientology, you will find that Tom Cruise is one of the most passionate movie producers in Hollywood. He’s been studying films since he was a kid and he’s always gone above and beyond to create the most immersive movie-going experiences possible.
Every year he releases a new film, it pretty much always surpasses the last one. In his new ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ movie, there is a story behind it that is definitely worth telling. This film was set to be released in June 2020; then the pandemic struck the world. Naturally, all movie theatres were affected by this global crisis and many even filed for bankruptcy.
Tom Cruise reportedly sought legal aid last year when Paramount notified him that 'Mission: Impossible 7' would have a 45-day theatrical window before streaming on Paramount+.

What did Tom Cruise do as a response to the pandemic?
Unlike most of the studios who had movies going out in 2020 after the pandemic hit, Tom Cruise decided to speak to every single movie theatre he could talk to and offer them hope. He knows how good his movies are and his purist self didn’t allow him to send this film straight to streaming.
Many great movies did just that and lost hundreds of millions of dollars. But not Tom Cruise, he was willing to do everything it took to get ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ in all the theatres he could once the pandemic got a little stabilized. The year 2022 will forever be remembered as the year in which Tom Cruise fulfilled his promise to all movie goers and theatres alike.

During his most recent appearance to promote the film at Cannes Film Festival in France, the film got a standing ovation alongside all the raving reviews. ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is also expected to make hundreds of millions of dollars in the international box office. When asked if he would ever send one of his films straight to streaming, Cruise was very clear.
This is what he said during a press conference at Cannes: “That’s not going to happen. Ever. I’ve spent a lot of time with theater owners. The people that serve the popcorn, the ones who make this [happen]. Please, I know what you’re going through. Just know we are making ‘Mission: Impossible’ and ‘Top Gun’ is coming out. I make movies for the big screen.”
