Top ISWAP Commanders and 76 Fighters Surrender in Northeast

Top leaders of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), along with 76 foot soldiers and their families, have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Nigeria’s North-East region.

This was disclosed in a statement released Sunday night by Captain Muhammad Goni, Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai.

According to Captain Goni, the insurgents laid down their arms and abandoned their camps as a result of sustained military pressure. The statement highlighted that Operation Hadin Kai continues to make significant progress in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign against Boko Haram and ISWAP, leveraging credible and timely intelligence to guide their operations.

In a fresh breakthrough, another group of senior ISWAP terrorist leaders has also left their hideouts and surrendered to troops within the North-East theatre. Among those who surrendered are key figures in the terrorist network, reflecting the impact of unyielding military offensives. The surrendered individuals are currently undergoing profiling, debriefing, and other standard procedures at a secure location in line with established protocols.

“Within the last week alone, a total of 76 terrorist foot soldiers, along with some of their family members, have surrendered to our troops,” Captain Goni added.

He emphasized that this development underscores the devastating effectiveness of Operation Hadin Kai’s sustained offensive, which continues to dismantle terrorist strongholds, disrupt command and logistics structures, and restrict insurgent movement throughout the region. Persistent military operations have eroded the combat capabilities and morale of the terrorists, causing fractures within their leadership.

Captain Goni further stated that these operational successes demonstrate the effectiveness of the Nigerian military’s comprehensive counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency strategies, which combine precision combat operations, intelligence-led engagements, and coordinated joint efforts with partner agencies.

He assured that Operation Hadin Kai remains steadfast in its mission to defeat terrorism and restore lasting peace and security to the North-East. “The pressure on the remaining terrorist elements will continue until they are either neutralized or compelled to surrender,” the statement concluded.
