WATCH: John Legend thrills guests at ThisDay’s 25th anniversary

John Legend, American singer, has thrilled guests with spectacular performance during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of ThisDay, a national daily in the country.

The silver jubilee, which was held on Monday at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, was graced by the “creme de la creme” from different sectors of the country.

The award-winning singer, who was a guest of Nduka Obiagbena, the founding chairman & editor-in-chief of the THISDAY Media Group, started the evening with a snippet of his collaborative effort with the late rapper Nipsey Hussle and DJ Khaled, ‘Higher’.

He went on to bless the audience with hits songs like ‘Tonight’, ‘Love Me Now’,  and ‘Used to Love You’, among others.

Also present at the event was Naomi Campbell, British actress and model, and Aṣa, a Nigerian-French singer and songwriter.

Chrissy Teigen, his wife, had earlier confirmed his visit to Nigeria, ruing her inability to go with him on the trip to Africa’s most populous nation.

John went to Nigeria for a couple days and I thought about going, purely to find Michael from 90 days, but…the enchilada has rendered me useless,” she wrote on Twitter.

The singer’s visit to the country, however, has left many of his Nigerian fans talking on social media, with many lamenting they would have defied the odds to see the music superstar, had he officially announced his visit.

The 40-year-old singer has had a remarkable musical career, winning several awards, including Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards.

His visit stretches the list of international artistes who have visited Nigeria amid growing interests from others who are also eager to see what the country looks like.

In 2019, Cardi B, US rapper, visited the country. She would later threaten to file for Nigerian citizenship during the peak of Donald Trump-inspired attack on Iran.

Stefflon Don, British rapper, also visited Nigeria, extolling the country’s jollof rice during one of the events she headlined in Lagos.

Lil Wayne, American rapper and record producer, also indicated interest to visit Africa’s most populous nation as well as Ed Sheeran, UK singer, who disclosed he intends taking a vacation in the country.
