A yet-to-be-identified female passenger lost her life after being crushed by a truck on the Agbara-Lusada Expressway in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The tragic incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Saturday at Cashier Bus Stop, according to an eyewitness named Kunle.
Kunle explained that the accident happened when a motorcycle, on which the woman was riding as a passenger, attempted to overtake a truck. During the maneuver, the woman fell from the motorcycle and was fatally struck by the truck.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed the incident in a telephone interview. He said the vehicles involved included a white Howo truck with registration number T-34611LA and two motorcycles without displayed registration numbers.
Eyewitnesses reported that the crash was caused by an attempt at wrongful overtaking by one of the motorcycle riders, resulting in the passenger falling under the truck.
The RTA/RTC was caused by wrong overtaking on the part of the Okada rider, which led one of the Okada passengers to fall under the truck, which claimed her life,” Akinbiyi stated.
A total of five people were involved in the accident — three males and two females. Two people, a male and a female, sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital by a good Samaritan before TRACE operatives arrived. Akinbiyi added that the deceased’s remains had been collected by her family, and the truck had been moved to police custody for further investigation.
TRACE operatives and PAPA OSCAR responders also attended the scene to restore normal traffic flow.
In a related development, PUNCH Metro reported on Wednesday that four people died in a fatal crash near Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. That accident involved a blue Mitsubishi Canter with registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured Howo truck with registration number T-695 KT.
