The highest-scoring candidate of the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam (UTME) has won the N16 million prize of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had unveiled 13 candidates with the best results in its 2020 exams and a female student, who hails from Anambra, came top with 365.
Egoagwuagwu Agnes Maduafokwa, this year’s UTME best candidate, who attended Louisville Girls High School in Ijebu-Itele, Ogun state, had applied to study Industrial Production Engineering.
While the NSE is yet to issue an official statement to that effect, the genius was pictured on Wednesday as a cheque of N16 million was being awarded to her, having written her UTME in Lagos state.
It was gathered that the monetary prize was handed down after she was invited for recognition at the official unveiling ceremony of “UTME Examination for Engineering Candidates” on June 30.
It is understood that Agnes opted for the University of Ibadan, Oyo, for which she aced her subjects with scores of 72, 99, 99, and 95 in Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry respectively.
It is also believed that, apart from being the president of her school’s mathematics club, the young lady, who looks to apply maths to problem-solving, doubled as the first assistant head girl.
